Susan R Smith, PhD

I have a PhD in Counseling and am a licensed Clinical Psychologist. My 25 plus years of experience as a therapist and coach have provided the perspective that  a good match between therapist style/client needs is essential for a successful  experience.   I work with older adolescents and adults using a blend of cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal process, problem solving, and positive psychology models.  My clinical practice model represents an integrated, individualizeSusan Smithd treatment approach that combines my clinical experience with an emphasis on client strengths, resources and goals.  In coaching I work with persons who wish to achieve greater work-life balance, who struggle with life-style change related to health issues, or who are facing career transitions or obstacles to success.

My clinical specialty areas include eating disorders/disordered eating/weight management; relationship conflicts; anxiety and related conditions; and retirement/aging concerns.   I provide career and life coaching for individuals who are experiencing obstacles in achieving meaningful life goals in their jobs or personal lives.  In addition, I provide equine assisted psychotherapy (EAP) on a time-limited adjunctive basis.

I encourage clients to be actively involved in setting therapeutic goals.  My view is that the most effective therapy is based on active collaboration between therapist and client.   I prefer to do an initial free brief phone consultation to determine the goodness of fit between my style and client concerns.

I am a member of American Psychological Association (APA), The Academy for Eating Disorders (AED), and am Level I Certified with Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA).
